Police are intensifying their efforts in the investigation of a recent firearms discharge in Holmfirth, with additional arrests made as inquiries progress.

Specialised officers have been actively pursuing leads in the Meltham, Huddersfield, and Holmfirth regions in the aftermath of an incident on Dunford Road, near the South Lane junction, at approximately 9:50 pm on Friday, 16th February.

A total of six males have been apprehended on suspicion of firearms offences. Among them, three individuals aged 20, 19, and 24 are currently in police custody, while three others aged 26, 21, and 20 have been released on bail pending further investigations.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said; “This was a targeted and isolated incident in the centre of Holmfirth. Any use of a firearm on our streets will not be tolerated.

“We have made several arrests and have been conducting searches in the Huddersfield, Meltham and Holmfirth areas over the last few days.

“I would continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have mobile phone or dash cam footage of the incident or just before or after the incident to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to speak to people who were outside a restaurant at the junction of Dunford Road and Victoria Square at the time of the incident.

“Our colleagues from the Neighbourhood Policing team have been carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.”
