Keighley Cougars have announced the acquisition of promising young middle, Matty Laidlaw, from Hull FC on a season-long loan.

Laidlaw, a formidable prop forward known for his robust carries, will bolster the front row and provide the strength that the club is seeking to add to their squad.

Having made his debut during the 2022 Magic Weekend clash against Hull KR, Laidlaw went on to make a total of eight appearances in his first season.

Steve, the Chief Operating Officer at Cougars, said; “I must thank James Clarke at Hull FC for facilitating Matty’s arrival at Keighley and look forward to a strong relationship between the two clubs in the future. It’s a significant signing as we start to develop a new relationship with a top Super League club. Matty comes with the hunger to play rugby and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the group.”

Steve further commented on Laidlaw’s abilities, stating, “Obviously Matty is a very capable player coming from Hull FC and the reports out of their place is that he’s had a good season. He’s just not quite getting into the 21-man squad.”

The loan agreement for Matty was finalised and submitted before the RFL deadline, making him eligible for selection this weekend against Widnes.
