Oldham RLFC has confirmed the loan signing of Andy Gabriel, the 29-year-old winger who has been a prominent figure in the Dewsbury Rams squad since 2019. Gabriel’s move to the Roughyeds is set to last until the culmination of the 2023 season, bolstering Oldham’s options on the field for the remainder of the campaign.
Andy Gabriel’s return to competitive action occurred just last month, marking a triumphant comeback from a severe injury he sustained during a match against Widnes in July 2022. The winger showcased his abilities once again by scoring a try in the game against Rochdale Hornets, proving that he has regained his form and is ready to contribute to his new team’s success.
Upon sealing the loan deal, Oldham RLFC’s Head Coach, Liam Finn, expressed his satisfaction with Gabriel’s return to the field in Dewsbury colours. Finn commented, “Gabes has worked hard getting back from a serious injury and we were delighted to see him back in Dewsbury colours for his return.
“We have two wingers who are playing well and Gabes wants to get his fitness up and force his way back into our team. It shows his character that he’s prepared to go and play somewhere to do that as a lot of people would just sit tight and wait without taking themselves out of their comfort zone.”
Liam Finn further assured fans that Gabriel’s loan agreement with Oldham includes a recall clause, allowing the club to bring him back for their upcoming fixtures if necessary. This flexibility ensures that the winger’s talents can still be utilised by the Rams, should circumstances require his immediate return.
