Authorities are urgently seeking witnesses following a tragic collision on the M62 motorway earlier today.

Reports came in to the police at 2:06 am, detailing a disturbing incident involving a Vauxhall Corsa travelling against traffic on the eastbound lanes of the motorway.

Law enforcement swiftly mobilized to locate the vehicle. However, they arrived to discover that the Corsa had collided with a VW Golf near Scammonden Bridge.

Tragically, the male driver of the Corsa was pronounced deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the male driver of the Golf sustained severe injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

As a consequence of the incident, both carriageways spanning Junctions 22 to 24 remain shuttered. Officials anticipate reopening these lanes before noon today, urging motorists to seek alternative routes in the meantime.

The Major Collision Enquiry Team has assumed responsibility for investigating the crash and is keen to solicit information from individuals who may have witnessed the event or possess footage capturing the grey Vauxhall Corsa prior to the collision.
