Police authorities in Leeds are urging potential witnesses to come forward following a harrowing road traffic incident that left a cyclist with life-threatening injuries.

The incident unfolded at approximately 9:25 pm last night (29/2) on Meanwood Road, in close proximity to the junction with Buslingthorpe Lane.

A Seat Altea, heading away from the city centre along Meanwood Road, collided with a Scott Aspect electric-powered pedal cycle travelling in the opposite direction.

The cyclist, a male in his twenties, sustained severe head injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

In connection with the incident, the driver of the Seat has been apprehended under suspicion of drug driving.

The Roads Policing Unit of West Yorkshire Police is now making a public appeal, urging individuals who may have witnessed the collision or have information about the events leading up to it, as well as those possessing potential video footage, to come forward.
