Police in Kirklees have issued an appeal for witnesses following an incident in Holmfirth on Friday night (16/2) where a firearm was discharged.

The discharge took place on Dunford Road in the town, near the junction with South Lane, around 9:50 pm. A male suspect has been apprehended and is currently in custody in connection with the occurrence.

Law enforcement is actively pursuing investigations into the incident and its origins, seeking the assistance of the public in shedding light on the matter.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson said: “I’d like to reassure people that this was an isolated and targeted incident and that there is no wider threat to the public.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at that time or who may have video footage of the incident, or circumstances leading up to it, to please come forward.”
