In response to community apprehensions regarding the illicit sale of vaping products to minors, law enforcement authorities have confiscated more than 5,000 illegal vape items from a South Kirkby store.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team, in collaboration with the Wakefield Licensing Team, executed a test purchase operation across various retailers in South Elmsall and South Kirkby on Saturday, January 13. During this operation, officers uncovered a staggering 5,159 illegal vapes at a South Kirkby establishment, with an estimated street value of approximately £75,000. Additionally, officers seized nitrous oxide canisters and counterfeit cigarettes from the same location.
In the aftermath of the operation, two other establishments in South Elmsall faced repercussions as they failed the test purchase operation by unlawfully selling alcohol to underage individuals. Consequently, these establishments are slated for license reviews.
Inspector Glen Costello, of the Wakefield East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This activity demonstrates the commitment of our neighbourhood teams to work with local residents, acting on the information they provide to help make our communities safer.
“If anyone has any information about crime or anti-social behaviour in their area then I would urge them to report it to us so that it can be actioned by ourselves and our partner agencies.”
