After a festive hiatus, the much-loved weekly ‘Wednesday@One’ organ recitals are set to make a triumphant return to Bradford Cathedral.

The upcoming season promises a diverse lineup of twelve talented organists, commencing with Michał Szostak from Poland on January 10, 2024. Marking key dates such as Ash Wednesday, International Women’s Day, and Holy Week, this musical journey is bound to captivate audiences.

Scheduled every Wednesday at 1 pm, the recitals kick off with an optional £4 buffet lunch at 12:30 pm, setting the stage for a delightful midweek musical interlude.

Attendance at these organ recitals is complimentary, although donations are graciously accepted. The performances, lasting approximately 45 minutes, offer attendees the chance to explore the Cathedral both before and after the recital.

Anthony Gray, Assistant Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral, says; “We’re greatly looking forward to hosting another wonderful collection of musicians from all across the globe.

“This term’s series is themed around the six amazing Trio Sonatas by JS Bach, and we are very fortunate to be featuring all six sonatas across the series played by different organists. There will also be other trios by JS Bach and a plethora of wonderful music by a panoply of other composers.

“This season will also include a recital for International Women’s Day (the recital taking place on Wednesday 6th March) in which Hilary Punnett will play a programme of all female composers, including Amy Beach, Judith Weir, Jeanne Demessieux, and Cecile Chaminade.

“As always, recitals on Wednesdays @ 1pm are free to attend, last for around 45 minutes, and are preceded by the infamous buffet lunch (for a £4 donation) from 12:30pm. We look forward to seeing you!”

For an in-depth perspective, interviews with each organist will be published on the Bradford Cathedral website in the week leading up to their respective recitals. The interview with Michał Szostak is already accessible online.

Following a brief two-week break, the next recital season is set to commence on April 17.
