In an exciting announcement, BBC Radio 1 has revealed the latest additions to its Residency line-up, with Joy Anonymous, Harriet Jaxxon, and KILIMANJARO set to take the airwaves by storm.

Commencing on Thursday, 11th January, Radio 1’s Residency will captivate audiences on both the main network and Radio 1 Dance with an exhilarating roster of globally acclaimed DJs. The Residency series invites listeners into the realm of cutting-edge dance and electronic music, spotlighting the most influential emerging sounds.

Each resident will commandeer the Radio 1 airwaves every Thursday for four weeks, from 11 pm to 1 am.

The schedule for January, February, and March unfolds as follows:

  • January: Harriet Jaxxon
  • February: KILIMANJARO
  • March: Joy Anonymous

Harriet Jaxxon, a seasoned DJ and producer from South East London, brings over a decade of experience to the Residency. With a track record of supporting genre heavyweights like Chase & Status and Shy FX, Harriet has graced stages worldwide, from Glastonbury to multiple world tours.

Harriet Jaxxon says: “Being able to share my love of music via a Radio 1 Residency has been a long-time goal of mine. It feels surreal that it’s now happening and I’m so honoured to have the opportunity to share the wide (and possibly unexpected) spectrum of sounds that continue to inspire me. As a DJ, curating journeys through music is my biggest drive in life, and that’s exactly how I’ll be approaching those 8 hours on the Radio 1 airwaves. I’ve got so much to play that it’s going to be a challenge to squeeze it all in, but I’m so excited to get going!”

KILIMANJARO, born in the UK with Zambian heritage, has earned recognition for blending Afro-centric rhythms with Western elements. His genre-defying records and performances at prestigious events like Glastonbury and Boiler Room have marked him as a rising star.

KILIMANJARO says: “Honoured and privileged to announce that I will be joining the BBC Radio 1 Residency this February! From sitting on my bedroom floor making mixtapes from tracks played on shows to getting my first plays from some of the station’s biggest DJs, Radio 1 has been a massive part of my musical adventure.

“I can’t wait to get stuck in and share tracks and records from my collection. From timeless classics to unreleased exclusives, expect – as ever – an eclectic mix of House, Afro house, Amapiano and everything in between. Radio 1’s Residency – let’s get it.”

Joy Anonymous, the London-based dance duo comprising childhood friends Henry Counsell and Louis Curran, garnered a dedicated following during the Covid-19 lockdown. Their success skyrocketed in 2023 with performances at major festivals and a surprise B2B2B2B set at Alexandra Palace alongside industry heavyweights.

Joy Anonymous say: “BBC Radio 1 has always soundtracked our lives. So we are beyond excited and very proud to be part of the new BBC Radio 1 residency team. We want to showcase the journey of how Joy Anonymous began and shed a light on all the influences and people who have contributed to our sound. Expect the unexpected from us and as always keep an eye on the tides.”

With an eclectic mix promised by these talented residents, Radio 1’s Residency is poised to continue its tradition of pushing boundaries and introducing listeners to the forefront of electronic and dance music.
