Six men have been detained in custody following their court appearance on charges related to substantial cannabis cultivation discovered at an abandoned care home in Leeds this week.

Members of the Leeds North West Neighbourhood Policing Team, assisted by colleagues from Leeds North East NPT and Leeds District Neighbourhood Impact Team, executed a drugs warrant at Moorfield House in Fieldhouse Walk, Moortown, on Monday. During the operation, cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £448,050 were uncovered.

At the scene, six individuals of Albanian nationality were apprehended and subsequently charged with the production of cannabis.

The accused, namely Alitor Deda aged 30, Erijon Gjoka aged 21, Edison Markeci aged 21, Agostin Marku aged36, Ali Qerfozi aged 41, and Andi Teta aged 32, all residing at Moorfield House, appeared before Leeds Magistrates Court on Tuesday. They have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court on January 5.
