Magic Light Pictures has crafted three delightful Christmas Idents exclusively for BBC One in 2023.

The trio of 40-second animations depict Tabby McTat and family enjoying a peaceful nap beneath the Christmas Tree before being abruptly awakened; Stick Man and his family receiving gifts from Santa; and the Gruffalo’s Child engaging in playful antics that nearly wreak havoc for the Gruffalo and his Christmas Tree!

These idents will be unveiled on BBC One after Strictly Come Dancing on 2 December and will continue to grace the channel throughout the festive season.

Animated by Red Star, these three idents will be featured alongside three specially crafted idents that premiered in 2020.

Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer says: “Especially for BBC One this Christmas, Magic Light have created charming, animated idents of some of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best loved characters to bring some extra festive joy and warmth into everyone’s homes.”

Produced by BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated team Magic Light Pictures, this Christmas animated adventure, Tabby McTat, the 11th Magic Light Pictures adaptation for BBC One, unfolds a tale set on the streets of London about the heartwarming friendship between a musical cat and a talented busker named Fred.

Derived from the immensely successful picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the film features Rob Brydon (Gavin and Stacey) as Fred, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísú (Gangs of London) as Tabby, Cariad Lloyd (Peep Show) as Prunella, Joanna Scanlan (The Thick of It) as Pat, Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who) as the Narrator, and Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes) as Sock.
