The festive season arrives early with the unveiling of fresh images from the Doctor Who Christmas special – The Church on Ruby Road. Ncuti Gatwa, portraying the Fifteenth Doctor, embarks on his inaugural epic journey in the TARDIS. Joining him in this adventure is Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, marking her debut as the Doctor’s companion.

Scheduled for broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the episode thrusts the Doctor into a confrontation with the mythical and enigmatic goblins, intertwining his life with that of Ruby Sunday, portrayed by Millie Gibson.

Details about Ruby Sunday are scant, as she was left abandoned on Christmas Eve as an infant. Currently residing with her mother, Carla, and grandmother, Cherry, her world is on the verge of a transformative shift as she encounters the Doctor, setting off on their inaugural adventure together.

Sharing the screen with Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson is Davina McCall, who assumes the role of herself and joins the cast alongside Michelle Greenidge as Ruby’s mother Carla, Angela Wynter as Ruby’s grandmother Cherry, and Anita Dobson as Mrs. Flood.

Davina says: “It is beyond an honour to be asked to appear in not only Doctor Who but also Ncuti’s first episode as the new Doctor. It was such an extraordinary experience and Russell has written you all a Christmas delight! Now I just can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

Russell T Davies, Showrunner adds: “From Day One in this job, I wanted Doctor Who back on Christmas Day! And with Ncuti, Millie, Davina and the Goblin King, I hope it’s a feast for all the family!”

Doctor Who returns on Saturday 2 December at 6.30 pm on BBC One and iPlayer with Special Two: Wild Blue Yonder, featuring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble.
