After the resounding success of the inaugural series of Beyond Paradise from Red Planet Pictures, hailed as the UK’s most triumphant new drama launch of 2023 thus far, audiences can anticipate a special Christmas episode airing this December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Returning to the quaint town of Shipton Abbott are familiar faces including Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman, Sally Bretton as Martha Lloyd, Zahra Ahmadi as DS Esther Williams, Dylan Llewellyn as PC Kelby Hartford, Barbara Flynn as Anne Lloyd, and Felicity Montagu as Margo Martins, joined by an exciting ensemble of guest actors.

The festive episode features James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley), Isaac Vincent-Norgate (Sanditon), Amalia Vitale (Endeavour), Kulvinder Ghir (Still Open All Hours), Sheila Reid (Benidorm), and Bellowhead. Returning characters include Chris Jenks as Josh Woods, Jade Harrison as CS Charlie Woods, and Eva Feiler as Lucy.

As the residents of Shipton Abbott prepare for Christmas, Humphrey and the team find themselves puzzled by a series of peculiar burglaries with unexpected twists. A breakthrough connecting the incidents leads to a bittersweet discovery, prompting a reconsideration of the true meaning of Christmas. Meanwhile, Kelby is tasked with overseeing a mischievous young shoplifter, and Humphrey faces pressure from CS Charlie Woods, who questions the necessity of keeping the local police station open. Esther’s teenage daughter, Zoe (Melina Sinadinou), navigates the challenges of working in Santa’s Grotto, and Martha reflects on the future after a chance encounter.

Filmed in the picturesque British counties of Devon and Cornwall, Beyond Paradise’s second series is set to return in 2024, promising beloved heartwarming relationship tales and intriguing criminal escapades. Conceived by Robert Thorogood and Tony Jordan, the Christmas special and the subsequent series are co-commissions between the BBC and BritBox International, produced by Red Planet Pictures, a part of the Asacha Media Group.
