The NHS in the North East and Yorkshire is encouraging individuals eligible for a flu or COVID vaccine to make use of the numerous appointments available for booking through the National Booking Service in the upcoming week.

Health authorities are advising individuals at a higher risk of COVID-19 and flu to secure their crucial protection before celebrating Christmas and New Year with family and friends.

Recent statistics released today reveal that the region has already administered over 1.8 million COVID jabs and 2.4 million flu vaccines to individuals most susceptible to severe illness from these viruses. However, there are still many more people who haven’t come forward.

Dr Yvette Oade CBE, Medical Director for NHS England in the North East and Yorkshire, said: “While this time of year sees many of us hunting for Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, many of us have yet to take up one of the best deals of all – a free NHS winter vaccination.

“With thousands of vaccine slots awaiting booking, I’d urge eligible individuals to book without delay and give themselves the best possible protection against serious illness or hospitalisation before the run-up to Christmas festivities.”

All eligible adults can schedule their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations through the National Booking System by visiting www.nhs.uk/seasonalvaccinations, on the NHS App, or by calling 119.
