More than 100 new positions have been established to staff the Surgical, Diagnostic, and Treatment Hub currently under construction at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

The initial phase of recruitment is presently in progress, with the Trust seeking to fill clinical roles, including Unit Manager, Team Leader, Theatres Registered Nurses/Operating Department Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.

Vacancies for Healthcare Support Workers and Theatres Healthcare Assistants will also be announced shortly.

Lead Clinician for the hub, Evie Chalkley, said; “We are really excited to start recruiting to these clinical roles for the surgical hub in Dewsbury, and I would encourage anyone looking for a new challenge, working for a new team, in brand new facilities, to have a look.

“People with experience in nursing or theatres can apply and a full training package and induction will be provided to everyone who joins the team.”

The cutting-edge elective care centre is one of several hubs opening nationwide to address the surgery backlog resulting from the pandemic. It is poised to significantly augment the number of operations performed, enhancing patient care and experience.

Construction for the hub is in progress, with the foundations currently being laid. The targeted completion date is the summer of 2024.

The facility will house two theatres for day case operations under general anaesthetic, four major treatment rooms for minor operations under local anaesthetic, and ten outpatient clinic rooms for patient assessment and diagnosis.

The hub will specialize in providing high-volume, low-complexity procedures in Plastics, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Gynaecology, Pain Management, Urology, Vascular, Colorectal, General Surgery, and Upper Gastrointestinal.

Len Richards, Chief Executive at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, remarked, “This is a fantastic development for the Trust and the local community, promising various benefits such as improved access to healthcare services, reduced patient waiting times, and an overall enhanced experience for patients.”
