The theme for Advent and Christmas at Bradford Cathedral this year is ‘Follow The Star: Join The Song,’ and you are warmly invited to explore the Cathedral in December for its array of events and services or to delve into the historical surroundings.

Advent commences on Sunday, 3rd December, marking the season’s start with the illumination of the Cathedral’s ‘Star in the Tower.’ This spectacle, accompanied for the second consecutive year by the State Gate light curtain, supported by Bradford BID, promises a captivating experience.

The Cathedral will be adorned with a Christmas tree in the West End, aglow with candles during numerous services. Additionally, two cribs will be on display within the State Gate and the Holy Spirit Chapel.

A multitude of events and services await your attendance. In addition to the regular services (the Sunday Eucharist is also available for online streaming), noteworthy occasions include the Advent Procession on 3rd December, Nine Lessons and Carols on 17th December, the Midnight Eucharist on 24th December, and the Christmas Day Eucharist.

For families, the cherished Messy Crib service returns on Christmas Eve. Also, don’t miss ‘An International Christmas’ on Saturday, 23rd December, featuring music and readings from Ukrainian, Nigerian, Congolese, Indian, and Sudanese communities in and around Bradford.

Musical highlights include the second ‘Black Dyke Band and Bradford Cathedral Choir Christmas Concert’ on Saturday, 9th December (limited tickets available), a collaboration with the Royal Opera House – ‘Songs for Ukraine Chorus’ – on Sunday, 10th December, and the highly anticipated Annual Lunchtime Carol Concert on Saturday, 23rd December.

The organ recital season concludes with a Christmas Spectacular on Wednesday, 13th December, at 1 pm, followed by a Christmas Meditation a week later.

Numerous services and events are planned in collaboration with partners across the City and District. Examples include ‘Bradford Stitch & Glitch – Pipe Up’ with the Women’s Sound Network on 2nd December, the Bradford District & Craven Health & Care Partnership – Christmas Carol Service on 14th December, and The City Carol Service on 18th December.

Various other events, such as the annual festive-themed Monday Fellowship gathering, and choir performances at the Bradford Royal Infirmary and The Corn Dolly during Advent, add to the festive spirit.

The Very Revd Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford, says; “I want to extend you a warm welcome to our Advent and Christmas services and events during the coming weeks.

“As ever, you’ll be able to Follow Our Star on top of the tower and find your way to this hidden treasure at the heart of the city.

“Throughout the Advent season there’ll be all sorts of exciting opportunities for you to come and not just engage in worship but explore the Cathedral and join in some of our many events. There’ll be carol services, there’ll be mince pies and mulled wine; all sorts of ways that we want to generously welcome you into your Cathedral at the heart of this city.”

Detailed information about all these events is available on the Bradford Cathedral website, through the Cathedral’s social media channels, or by picking up the new flyer at locations such as the Cathedral, Visit Bradford, The Broadway Bradford, City Hall, Bradford Libraries, and other spots around the City.
