Filming has commenced on the second series of “Suspect,” a production by Eagle Eye Drama, known for shows such as “Before We Die,” “Professor T,” and “The Couple Next Door.” The series is scripted by Joy Wilkinson (“Lockwood & Co,” “The Watch”) and David Allison (“The Couple Next Door,” “Marcella”), with co-production by BritBox International. Fremantle is handling international distribution, and the eight-part drama is scheduled to premiere in 2024 on Channel 4 in the UK and BritBox International in the US and Canada.

The upcoming season continues the narrative from where the first series concluded. Anne-Marie Duff reprises her role as Dr Susannah Newman, now urgently pursuing a self-confessed serial killer to prevent another imminent murder. A new character, Jon (Dominic Cooper), confesses to being a murderer during hypnosis, revealing plans to kill another young woman that night. Susannah, faced with the challenge of stopping him, embarks on a perilous mission when he escapes police custody and her former lover, Detective Superintendent Richard Grove (Ben Miller), refuses to take action.

The cast for the second series includes Dominic Cooper as Jon Fallow, Tamsin Greig as Natasha Groves, Vinette Robinson as Louisa McAdams, Eddie Marsan as Alistair Underwood, Celine Buckens as Sapphire, Nicholas Pinnock as Joseph Buckley, and Gina McKee as Kate.

Anne-Marie Duff said: “I’m so pleased to be returning to Suspect to be able to dig deeper into the character of Dr Susannah Newman. Expect lots of twists, turns and revelations alongside more questions to be answered. I can’t wait for viewers to see what we’ve done with the second series.”

Ben Wadey, Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Executive said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Eagle Eye Drama again to be bringing back Suspect for a second series. With Anne-Marie Duff returning as Dr Susannah Newman plus a truly spectacular ensemble cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan, Channel 4 viewers are truly in for a ride when this hits our screens.”

Director Carolina Giammetta has assembled a phenomenal crew and I know she will deliver an utterly compelling series.”

The second series, acquired by Channel 4, will be directed by Carolina Giammetta, with Joy Wilkinson writing episodes 1-5 and David Allison handling episodes 6-8. The series is produced by Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino, with Dylan Rees as the series producer. Reemah Sakaan and Stephen Nye serve as executive producers for BritBox International. “Suspect” is adapted from the Danish original “Forhøret (Face to Face)” and produced in association with Happy Duck Films and the Belgian Tax Shelter. Global sales are managed by Fremantle, with transmission details to be announced later.
