The BBC has announced the appointment of Jack Whyte as Director of Product Engineering and Data. Jack will commence his role on 30th October 2023, moving from Anaplan to be based in the BBC’s newly established tech hub in Newcastle, in the North-East.

Reporting directly to Storm Fagan, the BBC’s Chief Product Officer, Jack will oversee the development, leadership, and expansion of high-calibre product engineering and data teams. These teams will focus on revolutionising the BBC’s digital products and services for its audiences.

Storm Fagan, BBC Chief Product Officer says: “I’m delighted to welcome Jack to the BBC. We’re looking forward to him bringing his wealth of engineering and data experience, helping us become the world’s first digital public service broadcaster. Our plans to transform our services like BBC iPlayer, Sounds, News and Sport – are really starting to deliver, so we’re looking forward to Jack helping us take these to the next level.”

Jack Whyte says: “Clearly, there are no brands more beloved than the BBC; the opportunity to contribute to its continued success as it transforms itself digitally – is a dream. The BBC has such incredible products and services already, so I’m really looking forward to helping a winning team to keep winning.”

Jack joins the BBC from Anaplan, a company specialising in business planning software, where he held the position of Global Senior Vice President of Engineering. Prior to this, at eBay, Jack led the European Research and Development group, overseeing engineering, product, design, and content teams that supported European eBay sites.

His history reflects a formidable record of effectively expanding technical organisations.
