Leeds District CID is currently investigating an incident that took place after 5 pm on Sunday, October 22, on Third Avenue in Rothwell. This occurred subsequent to the apprehension of a car by officers for a suspected traffic violation.
A sizable crowd gathered around the vehicle as the officers attended to the driver, becoming embroiled in the incident. Additional officers arrived on the scene to support their colleagues, and three officers sustained minor injuries during the ensuing disturbance.
Two individuals were apprehended at the location on suspicion of various offences, including assaulting police officers, possession of controlled substances, and possession of a knife and offensive weapon. These two individuals have subsequently been released pending further investigation.
Furthermore, a quantity of substances suspected to be Class A and B drugs, along with a knife and an offensive weapon, were also seized. In accordance with standard protocol following any arrest involving the use of force, the Body Worn Video footage from the attending officers will be thoroughly reviewed, in conjunction with any relevant Social Media footage. Any violations of professional conduct standards that are identified will be assessed and addressed in accordance with police conduct regulations.
