The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Gerry Barker, along with the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Jean Barker, were presented with the inaugural poppies from the Royal British Legion, marking the commencement of this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Barbara Allsopp and Larissa Lister, Joint Poppy Appeal Organisers in Bradford, along with Gillian Carr, the Poppy Appeal Manager for Bradford, Calderdale, and Kirklees, bestowed the poppies upon the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress at Bradford’s City Hall.

The Royal British Legion’s annual sale of paper poppies serves to generate funds in support of the Armed Forces community. Additionally, these poppies stand as a tribute to the sacrifices and dedication of the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Gerry Barker, said: “We are proud to again support this very important annual appeal which not only commemorates the sacrifices made by members of our Armed Forces and their families, past and present, but also funds the many services provided by the Royal British Legion to support these communities.”
