A first-look image of the upcoming BBC factual series, “The Firm,” has been unveiled, generating excitement as the much-anticipated show is set to debut on BBC Scotland and iPlayer next month.

This groundbreaking series chronicles the endeavours of internationally acclaimed lawyer and activist, Aamer Anwar, along with his dedicated team of lawyers, who are steadfast in their commitment to championing the rights of the underprivileged, all in pursuit of ensuring that justice prevails.

“The Firm” offers a compelling glimpse into the inner workings of a prestigious and exceedingly high-pressure legal firm, reminiscent of the acclaimed US legal drama, “Suits” – albeit with the bustling streets of Glasgow as its backdrop, where Aamer’s firm is headquartered.

Spanning eight episodes, “The Firm” shadow Aamer as he embarks on what proves to be the most demanding year of his career. Juggling three public inquiries, Aamer advocates for the family of Sheku Bayoh – often referred to as “Scotland’s George Floyd” – in the public inquiry concerning his tragic demise while in police custody. Additionally, he represents the Scottish Covid Bereaved in both the Scottish Covid-19 Inquiry and the UK Covid-19 Inquiry – the largest public inquiry in British history.

Yet, amidst the relentless pressure and intense public scrutiny, “The Firm” delves into Aamer’s personal narrative, unearthing the trauma that propels him forward, as well as his intimate bond with his three children. It also showcases the camaraderie amongst his devoted and industrious team, all united by a singular objective: to challenge injustice at every juncture.

“The Firm” is poised to premiere on BBC iPlayer and will also be broadcast on BBC Scotland in the forthcoming month. The series is produced by STV Studios for BBC Scotland, with David Harron serving as the Commissioning Executive for BBC Scotland. The Executive Producers are Craig Hunter, Creative Director of Factual at STV Studios, and Joe Sharp.
