Krishnan Guru-Murthy, a renowned journalist and broadcaster, has been confirmed as the fourth celebrity contestant for the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing. The popular entertainment show, produced by BBC Studios, is set to make its return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn, promising to once again bring sparkle, glamour, and captivating dance performances to audiences all over the country.
Having earned recognition for his work as the main anchor of Channel 4 News, Krishnan Guru-Murthy has also made a mark through his reporting for the foreign affairs series Unreported World. Additionally, he has hosted live debates for Channel 4 during significant events such as elections, referendums, and major crises. In 2022, his exceptional talent earned him the prestigious Royal Television Society Journalism Award for Best Network Presenter.
With a career spanning back to 1998, Krishnan Guru-Murthy has covered numerous significant events, ranging from the Omagh bombing to the 9/11 attacks, and from the Arab Spring to the Ukraine War. He has showcased his commentary skills on live events, including the Paralympics Ceremonies, and has presented non-news programs, such as the first live televised Autopsy. He also hosts the Channel 4 News podcast titled “Ways to Change the World.”
Krishnan’s journey in television began with the BBC, where he presented youth programs before progressing to Newsround, Newsnight, BBC World, and News 24.
Krishnan Guru-Murthy says: “I’m surprised, delighted and slightly confused to find myself taking part in Strictly on the basis of ‘you only live once!’ and I can’t wait to start learning to dance, but I am slightly worried about my general decrepitude. I know I’m going to love it and have a brilliant time and just hope I’m not the only one enjoying my participation.”
The announcement of Krishnan’s participation in the show was made on Claudia Winkleman’s show on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday, 5th August.
While the identities of the other celebrity contestants joining the new series are yet to be disclosed, fans can eagerly anticipate the unveiling of the remaining participants in due course.
