Halifax Cricket League Second Division witnessed an eagerly awaited clash at Augustinians, as Upper Hopton visited, but it turned out to be a disappointing affair for both teams. The difficult pitch made batting a challenging task, resulting in the home team being bowled out for a mere 57 runs in 35.3 overs. The visiting bowlers performed well, sharing the wickets amongst themselves.
In contrast, Hopton displayed their prowess by achieving the target of 60-1 in just 15 overs. This victory brought them within touching distance of the top spot, trailing their hosts by only one point.
Meanwhile, at Sowerby St Peter’s, Leymoor struggled against the conditions and managed to score only 119 all out. The scorecard had an unusual appearance, with Glenn Barnard (57) and Joshua Moore (45) contributing the majority of the runs, leaving only 17 runs for the rest of the team. Sowerby had little trouble chasing down the target, reaching 120-4 in the 27th over, with Aiden Green’s impressive 36 not out off just 11 balls.
Oakworth had a successful journey to Deighton, securing a three-wicket victory over Bradley & Colnebridge. The home team struggled on the tricky track, being bowled out for 91 runs. However, Oakworth also faced challenges while batting, losing seven wickets before reaching the winning score of 92-7.
In a thrilling match that saw a total of 425 runs being scored, Old Town made a commendable journey to Cullingworth and emerged victorious by eight wickets. Cullingworth batted first, posting a score of 212-9. However, Old Town rose to the occasion, responding with an impressive 213-2 to claim the win.
Unfortunately, the matches at Bridgeholme (against Stones) and Outlane (against Queensbury) were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
