Guiseley secured another pre-season triumph with a 2-0 win over Avro FC from Oldham. Liam Tongue and Miguel Valsau were the heroes of the match, each scoring a goal to seal the victory for the Lions.

Despite the quick turnaround from their previous match against Farsley Celtic, Guiseley showed no signs of fatigue. The players looked comfortable and in control as they took on their opponents.

The game started cautiously, with both teams struggling to gain control due to the challenging weather conditions. However, on the 19th-minute mark, Tongue surprised everyone with a spectacular shot that sailed over the Avro keeper and found the back of the net, delighting the soaked away supporters.

As the game progressed, both sides continued to find it difficult to create significant moments, largely due to the adverse weather and the artificial playing surface. The first half ended without any further goals.

The second half began with a competitive edge, but an extended delay interrupted the flow of the game. Unfortunately, this delay resulted in the dismissal of Jack Dyche, leaving Guiseley with ten players for the rest of the match.

Despite being a man down, Paul Phillips’ team didn’t let that discourage them. In the 80th minute, a fantastic team effort allowed Academy graduate Valsau to break through and score, extending Guiseley’s lead.

The Lions held on to their advantage and secured another win as they continue their preparations for the upcoming league season. Their final friendly match will be against Brighouse Town on Saturday.
