Bradford Museums and Galleries have organised a series of captivating creative writing workshops this August. The workshops are scheduled for three Tuesdays: August 8, 15, and 22, from 10.30am to 1pm, and will be held at the enchanting Cartwright Hall, situated in the scenic Lister Park.

Admission to these inspiring workshops is entirely free, and participants will also be provided with lunch. However, since space is limited, it is essential to reserve your spot in advance. You can secure your place by sending an email to bradfordcares@karoliacreatives.co.uk.

Drawing inspiration from the museum’s exhibits and surroundings, these workshops will delve into the realms of short stories and poetry. Furthermore, all the talented writers attending the workshops will be given the opportunity to be considered for inclusion in an upcoming publication.

For those who cannot make it to the morning workshops, fear not! The resident volunteer and esteemed writer, Mariyam Karolia, will be available during the afternoon for writers to drop in and seek her guidance until 3.30pm.

As an added treat, there’s a writing competition open to all, inviting poetry and short story submissions until August 30th, 2023. The entries will be meticulously shortlisted, and winners will be awarded first, second, and third prizes. If you wish to participate in this exciting competition, you can send your entries to https://karoliacreatives.co.uk/bradford-cares-writing-competition. Selected works will be featured in an anthology named “In the Blink of an Eye,” which will be available for purchase at the gallery shop.

Please note that under 16s must be accompanied by a guardian throughout the workshops.

Additionally, Mariyam Karolia, the resident writer, extends a warm welcome to children’s homes, offering in-home workshops tailored to the age group of the children. These workshops promise to be an engaging and imaginative experience.

As part of the final project, Mariyam is eager to collect home videos of Bradford from the past 30 years, which will serve as inspiration for the writing pieces. If you have any such videos to share, kindly submit them to bradfordcares@karoliacreatives.co.uk.

These incredible workshops are made possible through the support of Bradford Museums and Galleries, with funding from Arts Council England. It is a golden opportunity for aspiring writers and creative minds to hone their skills, connect with like-minded individuals, and contribute to a vibrant artistic community. Don’t miss out on this enriching experience!

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “This is a great opportunity for aspiring writers to come along and take inspiration from our wonderful museum and also gain expert advice.”
