This alert is no longer in force as the water level in Balne Beck is expected to fall through the evening and overnight. Showery outbreaks of rain on 3rd and 4th August are not expected to result in the need for further alerts in this area.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for Alverthorpe Beck, Balne Beck, Ings Beck, and Oakenshaw Beck in Wakefield due to rising river levels caused by heavy rainfall. Low-lying areas may experience flooding from 11:00 am today, 02/08/2023.
To address the situation, the Agency is actively clearing debris from weed screens in the affected region. Continuous monitoring of water levels is being conducted. It is crucial to avoid walking or driving through floodwater for safety reasons.
The rainfall is expected to subside from this afternoon onwards.
