Guiseley AFC has exciting news to share as they happily announce the contract extension of their midfielder, Callum Chippendale, for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
Callum Chippendale, who has been an integral part of the team during the pre-season matches, is eagerly looking forward to the fresh challenges and opportunities that await him in a Guiseley jersey, as mentioned by Rachel O’Connor.
The impressive performance displayed by the Guiseley squad in these pre-season games has left a strong impression on the former Barnsley FC Under-23s player. Callum believes that the team is well-prepared for the upcoming Northern Premier League Pitching In Premier Division season, having faced tough opposition from higher-ranked clubs in the Pyramid, securing wins against Spennymoor and Scarborough, and managing a draw against Farsley.
Chippendale said: “Sometimes pre-season can be a false indicator of the league season to come but this time we have had some good tests that have been more like league games. They have been against good opposition and have been fairly realistic to the challenges ahead.
“There has been a bit of bite and the squad has performed well and we will only get better and better as the season progresses. We are looking for a successful season with promotion in our sights. We will be in it to win it.”
On a personal level the attacking midfielder is looking to help the team as much as possible and play anywhere the management want him to.
“I can play in a few different roles, as can many of the squad, and I am hoping to play as much as possible and chip in with goals and assists,” said Chippendale.
Explaining his decision to sign a new contract with the club he said: “It was a no-brainer really as I have absolutely loved being at this club, it is such a welcoming place – the fans, the volunteers, the Board and officials, there are some great, great people here.”
He added: “The management look to have gathered a great squad together and I have a feeling that the coming season is going to be great. We have a good squad with great ability, good attitude and good experience.”
Chippendale’s arrival in Guiseley occurred in October 2022 as part of a transfer deal that sent John Johnston to Matlock. The specifics of the deal, including an undisclosed fee and the inclusion of Callum, were not disclosed to the public.
The 27-year-old player hails from the Keighley area and has a history with Guiseley’s current manager, Paul Phillips, having played under him at Matlock. Chippendale began his football journey as a youth player at Bradford City, eventually earning his first professional contract at Barnsley FC.
Following his time at Barnsley, Chippendale joined Bradford (Park Avenue) before making a move to Boston United in 2016. He then gained valuable experience at several other clubs, including Gainsborough Trinity, Glossop North End, Shaw Lane, and Buxton, before eventually joining Matlock Town in the summer of 2019. Notably, at the age of 22, he led Buxton as their captain during the playoffs.
The midfielder said: “I have twice been in the play-offs but although it is an achievement within itself it is not quite getting over the line and I hope to go one better with Guiseley. We are hoping for the playoffs at the very least with Guiseley, a club that was a good National League North side and they need to be back there. I will be doing all I can to make that a reality.”
Chippendale is employed in Bradford at a family-owned business that specialises in producing wool machine-washable products.
His family has a strong footballing background, with his elder brother Aidan currently playing for Thackley—a club their father was also associated with after transferring from Bury. Aidan’s football journey began in Bradford City’s youth team before making his breakthrough into professional football with Huddersfield Town.
In his spare time Callum enjoys playing golf and is a member at West Bradford Golf Club.
