During the summer months, Bradford Cathedral warmly receives a series of visiting choirs, and the upcoming performers are set to be Caelestis. They are scheduled to lead the musical performances at three distinct services over the weekend of Saturday, August 26th, and Sunday, August 27th, 2023.
The origins of Caelestis, a term signifying ‘heavenly,’ trace back to their formation at the University of York. Initially conceived to bring the tradition of Evensong to local churches, the choir’s scope expanded over time.
Their repertoire now includes singing Evensong at churches located farther afield, with a notable appearance at Ripon Cathedral in 2019. Since then, they have graced various venues across the nation, including a performance earlier in the year at Hampton Court Palace.
Joel Starkie, Conductor of Caelestis, says; “We would love a really warm welcome when we arrive this month! It will give us the opportunity to really enjoy Bradford as a city.
“Essentially, we need you. That’s what we want: for you to come and help us enjoy the place and music!”
You can hear Caelestis at Choral Evensong on Saturday 26th August at 5:30pm and at Choral Eucharist (10:30am) and Choral Evensong (3:30pm) on Sunday 27th August. All are welcome, and the Choral Eucharist service is also streamed online.
