Bradford (Park Avenue) has secured the services of left-back Mason O’Malley on a one-year contract, with the option for an additional year, at the club.

During the pre-season, O’Malley impressed while playing as Trialist K, forming a strong partnership with Sykes-Kenworthy, particularly evident in the game against Bradford City.

Originally from Leeds, O’Malley began his football journey at Hunslet Boys before joining Huddersfield Town’s Academy at the under-14 level. However, he was released by Huddersfield in 2019, leading him to join Scunthorpe United’s under-23s squad in July of the same year.

O’Malley made his professional debut with Scunthorpe in a thrilling 1-1 draw (4-2 on penalties) in the EFL Trophy against Lincoln City. He signed a contract extension in December 2020, committing to the club until the summer of 2023.

Throughout his time at Scunthorpe United, O’Malley displayed steady progress. In the 2020/21 season, he made 31 appearances, followed by 28 in 2021/22, and 21 in the 2022/23 season.

In February 2023, O’Malley embarked on a one-month loan deal with Ilkeston Town, alongside his teammate Jordan Hallam.

O’Malley has a strong Irish connection, having trained with the Republic of Ireland under-16s in 2016. He made his debut for the Republic of Ireland under-21s in a friendly match against Wales under-21s in March 2021.

Coach Danny King had this to say on the signing; “Mason is a great signing for the club. He looks solid in defensive areas but also has real quality in the attacking side of the pitch too.”

“His experience playing at a higher level will definitely help the younger lads we have and we can see him being a strong member of the squad for this season.”
