A resident of Bradford has been sentenced to prison today after evading authorities for several months. Emmanual Sherriff, who hails from Bradford, had disappeared following an incident on Sackville Street on the 5th of February 2022. During this incident, a man was subjected to assault, threats, and robbery, and was held captive for several hours.
Numerous appeals were launched to locate Sherriff, including the offering of a reward through Crimestoppers. Eventually, on the 3rd of February 2023, Sherriff was apprehended in Scotland and subsequently transferred to a police station in West Yorkshire.
Sherriff faced a total of eight charges, encompassing offences such as kidnapping, robbery, and six counts of fraud. He entered a plea of guilt for all eight charges. Today, on Friday the 25th of August, Emmanual Sherriff, aged 26, residing on Etna Street, was handed a prison sentence of five years and one month at Bradford Crown Court.
In a related development, three other men were imprisoned in connection to the same incident in August 2022. Each of them received sentences of four years and three months in jail.
Detective Superintendent Andy Farrell of West Yorkshire Police said; “Sherriff is a dangerous individual who thought he could run away from his crimes and start a new life.
“Sherriff went to extreme lengths to try and get away from what he’d done. I would like to thank Police Scotland for their help in the matter, we left no stone unturned to ensure Sheriff was located and brought to justice.
“We welcome the judges’ sentence handed down today. This was a complex and lengthy investigation; I would like to praise the officers for their hard work and dedication to this case.
“I hope today’s outcome provides the victim with some comfort after nearly 18 months knowing that all four suspects have now been jailed for their involvement in the incident.”
