Road improvement works to commence on A62 Manchester Road, Slaithwaite starting from Monday, 31st July, a project aimed at enhancing the condition of the A62 Manchester Road in Slaithwaite will be initiated and is expected to last approximately four weeks.
The undertaking encompasses resurfacing activities, which will greatly improve the overall travel experience for motorists along the section of Manchester Road between Neilds Road and Linfit Fold in Slaithwaite.
The newly constructed road surface will not only provide a smoother and quieter journey for road users but also contribute to the prevention of future pothole formation and reduce other types of wear and tear.
The works will be carried out on weekdays from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, excluding weekends. However, if any weekend work becomes necessary, advanced notice will be given to affected residents and businesses.
Given the absence of suitable alternative routes along this stretch and the narrow width of the road, a convoy system will be implemented to ensure the safe passage of traffic through the construction area. Under this system, vehicles will be escorted by a dedicated vehicle at a maximum speed of 10 mph. Side roads along this route, including Neilds Road, Varley Road, Ned Lane, Back O’Dam, Commercial Street, Hollins Road, and Kitchen Fold, will also be impacted by phased road closures and temporary diversions.
Moreover, various other resurfacing projects in Kirklees are scheduled to commence in July.
Resurfacing work on Waingate, Berry Brow, will be conducted between Bridge Street and Newsome Road South. This will involve the carriageways from the junction of Woodhead Road to the junction of Caldercliffe Road. The works will occur on weekdays from 6:00 pm to midnight, starting from Monday, 10th July, and lasting approximately two weeks. A complete road closure will be in effect from Woodhead Road to Caldercliffe Road. Signed diversion routes will be in operation during the closures, with the proposed alternative route via Woodhead Road, Lockwood Scar, Church Lane, and Newsome Road South.
Additionally, four carriageway resurfacing schemes in the Holmfirth area are set to commence on 31st July. These schemes will cover East Street, Butt Lane, Main Gate, and Dean Bridge Lane.
The works in Holmfirth are anticipated to take five weeks, with operations occurring from Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Temporary traffic lights and signed diversion routes will be implemented throughout the duration of the works.
Councillor Masood Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment, says; “I’m pleased to see schemes funded by the highway’s capital programme, which was approved at cabinet earlier this year, programmed to go ahead this month.
“It’s important these resurfacing works take place, particularly ahead of the winter season, as this will help prevent new potholes from forming, and minimise other wear and tear on the roads, which can be more prevalent during the colder months of the year.
“I thank everyone in advance who may be affected by the resurfacing, for their patience and understanding whilst these important works are carried out.”
