Three parks in the Calderdale area have achieved the esteemed Green Flag Award, solidifying their status as some of the finest green spaces in both England and Wales. Centre Vale Park in Todmorden, Manor Heath Park and Jungle Experience in Halifax, and Shibden Park, also located in Halifax, have all been granted the prestigious Green Flag status, which serves as an international quality mark for parks and green areas.
The distinguished award was bestowed upon these parks as they successfully impressed the judges with their exceptional use of green space, well-maintained facilities, and unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and security for visitors.
The recognition is a culmination of a year’s worth of continuous hard work by the Calderdale Council, complemented by the unwavering dedication from various local community groups and collaborative working partners. It reflects the collective efforts of these entities, tirelessly striving to elevate the parks’ standards and enhance the overall park experience for residents and visitors alike.
The Green Flag Award announcement comes at an opportune moment, just ahead of Love Parks Week, a national campaign scheduled from Friday 28 July to Sunday 6 August. This week-long celebration aims to honor parks and green spaces and pays tribute to the devoted volunteers and workers who diligently care for these recreational areas throughout the year.
In full support of the campaign, the Calderdale Council encourages the community to explore their local open spaces and immerse themselves in the natural beauty they have to offer. Moreover, the Council takes this occasion to highlight the tremendous efforts invested in maintaining parks’ cleanliness and tidiness. They encourage people to actively participate in supporting these endeavours, ensuring that local parks remain free of litter and other issues such as dog fouling.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, Cllr Jenny Lynn, said; “We understand the importance of our parks and green spaces and the welcoming environment they provide for our communities.
“It’s fantastic news that three Calderdale parks have achieved the Green Flag Award. A lot of hard work goes into achieving the high standards required for this accreditation and I’d like to show my appreciation for the efforts of Council teams and the valued community groups who support this work.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said; “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in achieving Green Flag Awards in Calderdale.
“The successful parks are vital green spaces for the community in Calderdale, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that they maintain the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”
