Bradford Council has announced an exciting lineup of free, action-packed fun days set to take place in parks throughout the district during the upcoming school holiday. Aimed at children and young people aged 5 to 14, these activities will run daily from 11am to 3pm.
Dubbed the HAF Summer of Fun, these events will feature an array of sports inflatables, games, arts and crafts, dance sessions, adventure play, and even a climbing tower. Attendees can expect a wide range of engaging activities to keep them entertained throughout the day.
Moreover, the organisers have made arrangements to provide free, healthy packed lunches to children who receive free school meals due to benefits-related reasons. This initiative aims to ensure that all children have access to nutritious meals during the events.
The Summer of Fun will kick off at Scholemoor Community Centre on Monday, July 24. Over the course of six weeks, these events will traverse the district, with each week featuring a different location. The final event will take place in Roberts Park on Friday, September 1.
Numerous parks will play host to these events, including Keighley’s Devonshire Park, Windhill Community Centre, Victoria Park in Clayton, Upper Wyke Recreation Ground, and Knowles Park in Holme Wood.
Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “We are pleased to be able to bring these popular events to our communities again this year.
“Every child deserves to enjoy their summer holiday being active, playing and having fun with friends. We know the cost of living crisis is making life very tough for many families right now so it is important we are able to offer them somewhere to take their children for an enjoyable day out at no cost.
“I would encourage families to check out when we are coming to their local park and come along and join the fun.”
The Summer of Fun events are made possible through joint funding from the Department for Education’s Holiday Activities and Food program (HAF) and JU:MP.
To participate in the events, all children must register their names and schools upon arrival. A comprehensive list of the HAF Summer of Fun park events can be found on the Bradford Council website.
This initiative promises to create lasting memories for children and young people across the district, offering them a summer filled with joy, excitement, and the opportunity to explore their local parks and green spaces.
