Two individuals have been charged following an investigation into a horrifying attack on a dog, which tragically led to the animal being euthanised due to the severity of its injuries.

Euan Mears, a 24-year-old resident of Sandford Road, South Elmsall, and Brooke Barker, a 20-year-old resident of Sunnymede Terrace, Askern, Doncaster, have both been accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Mears has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to make an appearance at Leeds Magistrates Court this morning. Meanwhile, Barker has been released on bail and is expected to appear before Leeds Magistrates Court on 7 July.

The distressing incident is believed to have taken place at residences in Askern and Upton between 27 May and 4 June. The details of the attack remain undisclosed, but it has been reported that the injuries sustained by the dog were so severe that the difficult decision to put the animal to sleep had to be made.

Law enforcement authorities are actively seeking the cooperation of the public and urge anyone with information regarding the incident, including the availability of video footage or screenshots that may have been circulated online, to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Detective Inspector Heather Shearer expressed, “We are aware of comments on social media posts about this incident and acknowledge that there is a knowledge within the community.
