Pathologists from Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) are set to host a captivating exhibition at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax. Taking place on Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd June, the event is part of the National Pathology Week, which runs from 19th to 25th June 2023.

Pathology, the study of illnesses and diseases and their impact on individuals will take centre stage during this interactive exhibition. The esteemed Pathology team aims to engage young visitors at Eureka! through hands-on activities, promoting an understanding of the crucial role pathology plays in healthcare.

Children attending the museum will have the opportunity to partake in a variety of playful activities that shed light on the importance of pathology. The activities include engaging with simulated blood bags, offering an exciting and safe opportunity to learn about blood, identifying the hiding spots of various bugs on the body, dressing up as laboratory personnel, learning about the significance of handwashing through the exploration of worms, practising pipetting techniques into test tubes, examining different tissue types under microscopes, and even exploring simulated faecal samples.

Anu Rajgopal, Clinical Director of Pathology at CHFT, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are so excited to be here at Eureka! this week, helping to inspire the next generation of pathologists. We’re often an unseen part of the NHS, but we’re hoping that through this exhibition, children and their families gain an understanding of the important work of our teams and maybe even think about a career in pathology in the future.”

Jenny Parker, Play and Learning Manager at Eureka!, highlighted the significance of the collaboration with CHFT, saying, “It’s great to have the CHFT team at Eureka! this week. With Calderdale Royal just up the road, it’s been wonderful to partner with a local organisation to help inspire local youngsters to learn about the fascinating science of pathology.”

National Pathology Week provides an opportunity for the public to explore the vital field of pathology and appreciate the invaluable contributions of pathologists to healthcare. The exhibition at Eureka! promises an engaging and educational experience, fostering curiosity and nurturing potential aspirations in young minds.

The exhibition is open to the public on Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd June, offering a unique opportunity for children and their families to immerse themselves in the captivating world of pathology. Don’t miss the chance to explore and learn at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum.
