Police are appealing for witnesses and advising residents to remain vigilant following a distressing incident where a woman purportedly in distress stole a vehicle in a robbery in Huddersfield.

The Kirklees District Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently investigating an occurrence in Kirkheaton, Huddersfield, which took place on Sunday, 4th June. During the incident, a woman accompanied by two males stole a Volkswagen Tiguan from a male driver.

The robbery transpired at approximately 2 am on Highgate Lane, when the male driver noticed a woman on the roadside signaling for assistance. Concerned, he halted his vehicle, lowered his window, and engaged in conversation with the woman. At that moment, two males materialised, with one of them reaching into the car and unlocking it.

Subsequently, the male driver was forcibly removed from the vehicle by the suspects, who absconded in the stolen car. Roughly thirty minutes later, the vehicle was discovered, damaged, in a field adjacent to Highgate Lane.

It is believed that the suspects arrived at the scene from the Moor Top Road vicinity.

Detective Inspector Matt Sykes of the Kirklees CID stated, “We are actively investigating this incident and would like to speak to anyone who possesses information regarding the incident or any relevant CCTV footage. Additionally, we would like to speak to individuals who have footage or information about the abandoned vehicle on Highgate Lane.”

He further added, “This is an uncommon offence, and we also urge residents to exercise caution in light of these events. We are conducting an extensive range of inquiries, and I appeal to anyone who can aid the investigation to contact Kirklees CID on 101, quoting crime number 13230309018.”
