The highly anticipated second series of the critically acclaimed comedy-drama, Big Boys, is currently underway, with a star-studded cast confirmed to reprise their roles. Dylan Llewellyn, Jon Pointing, Camille Coduri, Katy Wix, Izuka Hoyle, Olisa Odele, Harriet Webb, and Annette Badland are all set to return for the new season of the multi award-winning show, which has garnered four BAFTA nominations.
Big Boys, a side-splitting and poignant creation, written and narrated by Jack Rooke, revolves around an unlikely friendship between the sweet and newly-out Jack (Dylan Llewellyn, known for his role in Derry Girls) and the boisterous and slightly older student Danny (Jon Pointing, Plebs).
In the second series, the lovable gang embarks on their second year at Brent University in the year 2014. Alongside the usual challenges of navigating virginity hang-ups, drug experimentation (both legal and otherwise), and Jack’s unwavering obsession with Alison Hammond, this time their degrees truly matter!
While the university escapades unfold, Jack’s family continues to grapple with life after the passing of his father. It marks a new chapter for them, just as significant as the one the university gang faces. Additionally, Danny delves into his past, learning to confront his mental health issues head-on.
Big Boys draws inspiration from Jack Rooke’s acclaimed live comedy shows, including ‘Good Grief,’ ‘Happy Hour,’ and ‘Love Letters,’ which have garnered accolades and widespread acclaim.
Expressing his excitement for the upcoming series, Jack Rooke said, “Big Boys will start its second year even dafter, sillier, and BIGGER than before! Fresh from Derry Girls, we have pinched Dylan Llewellyn back to play Jack, alongside BAFTA nominee Jon Pointing and recent BAFTA Scotland winner Izuka Hoyle as Danny & Corinne. The nation’s favourite gay icons Camille Coduri and Olisa Odele return to mischief as Peggy and Yemi. We’ve got more of the hilarious Harriet Webb as party-planning Cousin Shannon, with the legendary Annette Badland as Nan Bingo. And lastly, as I speak, I am watching Katy Wix in an orange polo shirt with a cheeky VK in one hand and a huge foam finger on the other. It is a dream come true!”
Big Boys is created and written by the talented Jack Rooke and executive produced by Jack Rooke, Ash Atalla, and Alex Smith for Roughcut TV. The show was commissioned for Channel 4 by Charlie Perkins, Head of Comedy, and Joe Hullait, Commissioning Executive for Comedy.
Fans of the series can look forward to the return of Big Boys, promising more laughter, tears, and unforgettable moments as it continues to captivate audiences with its unique blend of comedy and drama.
