Wakefield Council has recently taken decisive action against a local business that failed to comply with crucial food safety requirements.
Premier Store, located at 183 Church Lane, Normanton, Wakefield, was discovered to have prominently displayed food items beyond their use-by dates.
In a court hearing held at Kirklees Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 11, 2023, the owner of Premier Store pleaded guilty to the charge of exhibiting food that contradicted Regulation 19 (1) & (2) of the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013. The court imposed a £150 fine, along with a £60 victim surcharge, and required the business to pay prosecution costs amounting to £1,410.
Cllr Jack Hemingway, Wakefield Council’s esteemed Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, emphasised the significance of safeguarding the health and well-being of the residents.
He stated, “We remain fully committed to protecting the health of our residents, and this incident demonstrates our unwavering determination to take swift action against those who disregard essential requirements.”
