Thackley AFC is pleased to announce that Joint Managers Tom Greaves and Danny Forrest have extended their commitment to the club for the upcoming 2023/2024 season.
Following a successful stint in the latter half of the previous season, Greaves and Forrest will continue their roles as Joint Managers. Greaves, who emerged as the club’s top scorer last season with an impressive 26 goals, will also maintain his position as Player / Joint Manager.
The pair’s involvement in the club began in December 2022 when Greaves assumed the role of Interim Manager during a challenging period.
Alongside the management team they assembled, Greaves made an immediate impact, leading the team to a resounding away victory against local rivals Eccleshill United.
In January 2023, Danny Forrest joined Thackley AFC as a Joint Manager alongside Greaves. The duo guided the club to notable achievements in January and February, with a series of impressive results.
A mid-season squad refresh, which saw new faces joining the First Team, propelled Thackley AFC comfortably away from the relegation zone. The season concluded triumphantly with a 4-0 away win against Handsworth, with Greaves securing the final goal of the game.
Expressing his satisfaction with the managerial continuity, Chairman Ben Oliver stated, “We are delighted that Tom and Danny have committed to the Club for the upcoming season.
The planning for the next season began the day after the Handsworth game, demonstrating the dedication of both Tom and Danny. We have a promising pre-season schedule lined up, featuring a mix of teams, including some exciting ones who have chosen Thackley as their pre-season destination.
This is a testament to the reputation Tom and Danny have built in the game. Their positive impact at the club earlier this year was evident to everyone involved, and we eagerly anticipate how their vision will shape the upcoming season. As a Club, we will provide them with the necessary support.”
Joint Manager Danny Forrest also expressed his enthusiasm regarding the re-appointment, stating, “Tom and I are both delighted to continue with Thackley AFC, and we appreciate the support we have received from everyone at the Club.
“Since assuming our roles, the club has shown significant progress both on and off the pitch. We remain fully committed to pushing for further achievements. Tom and I share ambitious goals, and we are aligned with the club’s vision for future growth, which is truly appealing. We inherited a dedicated and talented group of players, and we are pleased with the recruitment we conducted in the latter half of the previous season. We intend to bolster the squad further ahead of pre-season to enhance our strength.”
