In an effort to promote peaceful summer evenings and maintain harmony among residents, the local council has announced the restart of their summer night-time noise service.
The service, which began on Friday, May 5, 2023, aims to address excessive noise levels that often arise during the lighter and warmer months.
With the arrival of summer, people eagerly anticipate good weather to spend evenings outdoors with loved ones, whether in their own outdoor spaces or at local pub beer gardens.
However, the council is urging individuals to be considerate of their neighbours and keep noise to a minimum to avoid causing distress to those living nearby.
To tackle the issue of excessive noise experienced by residents, the night-time noise service will operate on Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm to 3am, running until the end of September 2023.
Residents who find themselves subjected to nuisance noise can reach out to the dedicated team at 01484 414828. The team will provide guidance on acceptable noise levels and inform callers about the types of noise that fall within the council’s authority to address.
Upon receiving complaints, officers may visit the affected areas to investigate and, whenever possible, resolve the issues on the spot. If immediate resolution is not feasible, follow-up actions will be taken shortly thereafter.
The night-time noise service is not limited to residential complaints; it also responds to calls regarding noise disturbances caused by commercial premises. Therefore, residents living near venues such as pubs or bars can also utilize the provided contact number during the specified hours.
The council’s dedicated team has a proven track record of swiftly identifying problems in communities and effectively resolving noise complaints in previous years.
Councillor Will Simpson, the Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees, expressed the council’s desire for everyone to have an enjoyable summer and relish in wonderful get-togethers with friends and family. However, he acknowledged that a small number of events each year can create significant noise issues during unacceptable hours, negatively impacting the quality of life for neighbouring residents.
Simpson emphasized that the summer night-time noise service aims to provide advice, support, and informal resolutions to problems whenever possible. However, if informal measures prove insufficient, the council possesses a range of legal powers to address and resolve complaints.
Residents experiencing noise disturbances between 9pm and 3am on Friday or Saturday nights are encouraged to take advantage of the service by calling 01484 414828.
As Kirklees residents embrace the joys of summer, it is hoped that their mindful consideration of noise levels will create an atmosphere of tranquility and foster good relations among neighbours, ensuring a memorable and peaceful season for all.
