Sophie Turner, widely known for her roles in “Game of Thrones” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” has taken on the role of notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington in the upcoming ITVX drama “Joan.” The six-part series, produced in association with The CW Network and All3Media International, delves into the captivating life of Joan Hannington.
Esteemed screenwriter Anna Symon, known for her work on “The Essex Serpent” and “Mrs Wilson,” has penned the script, with Helen Black contributing to episode four.
Directed by BAFTA award-winner Richard Laxton, the drama is set in the vibrant 1980s, renowned for its bold fashion, iconic music, and cultural transformations. “Joan” opens with the story of a young, determined woman named Joan, played by Sophie Turner, who is scarred and vulnerable.
Trapped in a troubled marriage with a violent criminal named Gary, Joan seizes an opportunity for a fresh start when Gary flees. Determined to provide a secure future for herself and her six-year-old daughter Kelly, Joan assumes new identities and embarks on a thrilling journey as a masterful jewel thief.
The series explores Joan’s sharp intelligence, charm, and talent for impersonation and performance, taking viewers through the highs and lows, heartache, and joy of her captivating life.
Joining Sophie Turner in the cast is Frank Dillane as Boisie, a London antique dealer, and Kirsty J. Curtis as Nancy, Joan’s older sister and a salon worker. Gershwyn Eustache Jnr portrays Albie, an old acquaintance of Boisie who has started a new life in Spain with his wife Val, played by Laura Aikman.
Other notable actors in the series include Nick Blood, Jack Greenlees, Alex Blake, Caroline Faber, and Dorothy Atkinson.
“Joan” is an exciting new drama executive produced by Ruth Kenley-Letts, Jenny Van Der Lande, Neil Blair, Richard Laxton, and Anna Symon.
