Over 400,000 repeat prescriptions are now being booked through the NHS App every month in the North East and Yorkshire, according to recent figures released by NHS England. Since its launch in December 2018, the app has facilitated the ordering of over 42 million repeat prescriptions across England.

In the previous month alone, the NHS App enabled 408,000 repeat prescriptions to be ordered in the North East and Yorkshire, marking a significant increase compared to 337,000 in April 2022 and 83,000 in April 2021.

This rise in usage coincides with the upcoming 75th birthday celebration of the NHS on 5 July, which aims to honour the accomplishments and advancements made by the healthcare system and its dedicated staff.

With the approaching spring bank holiday later this month, patients are being reminded of the advantages of using the NHS App for ordering repeat prescriptions.

Keith Kendall, Regional Senior Pharmacy Integration Lead for North East and Yorkshire, emphasised the convenience of the app, allowing patients to order repeat prescriptions at their preferred time and date. Additionally, users can access information about local healthcare advice and services available during the bank holidays.

Dr. Faisel Baig, Regional Medical Director for Primary Care, commended the NHS App as an innovative tool developed by the healthcare system to cater to the evolving needs of patients.

Dr. Baig encouraged individuals to download the app, emphasising that millions of people are already managing their health needs through its use. For urgent care requirements during the bank holiday weekend, Dr. Baig advised patients to seek assistance through appropriate channels, such as dialing 999 in life-threatening emergencies and contacting NHS 111 for other health concerns. Online support can be accessed through the website: 111.nhs.uk, or by phoning 111.

The NHS continues to introduce new and innovative features on the app to provide patients with convenient and high-quality care. In many parts of the country, patients can now view and manage their hospital appointments through the NHS App. Furthermore, numerous GP practices send notifications to patients via the app, including appointment reminders and other relevant messages related to their care.
