Production has recently commenced on the highly anticipated second season of the popular BBC drama series, SAS Rogue Heroes, created by Steven Knight and produced by Kudos, a Banijay UK company, in collaboration with MGM+.

SAS Rogue Heroes made a powerful impact when it premiered on BBC One and iPlayer last autumn, captivating both viewers and critics alike. The series garnered a staggering audience of 9.4 million viewers within the first 30 days of its release. Drawing inspiration from Ben Macintyre’s bestselling book of the same name, the upcoming second season will once again offer a dramatized account of the origins of the renowned Special Forces unit, the SAS.

Set in the spring of 1943, the narrative follows the challenges faced by the SAS after the capture of David Stirling and the subsequent leadership of Paddy Mayne. Their focus shifts from the conflict in North Africa to mainland Europe. However, doubts surrounding the regiment’s future arise from GHQ, while the arrival of a surprise newcomer and the formation of a new unit adds further complexities to their mission. Will they be able to prove the indispensability of the SAS in the war, regardless of the path they must tread?

Returning to reprise their roles in the second season are Jack O’Connell as Paddy Mayne, Connor Swindells as David Stirling, Sofia Boutella as Eve Mansour, and Dominic West as Dudley Clarke. Joining the cast for series two are Gwilym Lee (The Great, Bohemian Rhapsody) as Bill Stirling, David Stirling’s brother and founder of the 2SAS regiment, and Con O’Neill (Happy Valley, Our Flag Means Death) as General Montgomery.

Additionally, Theo Barklem-Biggs, Corin Silva, Jacob Ifan, Jacob McCarthy, Stuart Campbell, and Bobby Schofield will return as Reg Seekings, Jim Almonds, Pat Riley, Johnny Cooper, Bill Fraser, and Dave Kershaw, respectively. They will be joined by newcomers Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom, The North Water) and Jack Barton (Heartstopper, War of the Worlds) in the roles of Jock McDiarmid and John Tonkin, both SAS members.

Other new cast members for the second season include Paolo De Vita, Anna Manuelli, Edward Bennett, and Matteo Franco.

Series creator, writer, and executive producer Steven Knight expresses his excitement, stating, “It’s great to be back in the captivating world of the SAS so soon. The second chapter is even more extraordinary than the first, and we hope to do justice to the remarkable story of the brave men and women we are portraying.”

Karen Wilson, joint MD of Kudos and executive producer, shares the enthusiasm, saying, “We were blown away by the incredible response to the first season and are thrilled to be back in production. Steven’s scripts are simply brilliant, and with our phenomenal cast, we can’t wait to embark on another thrilling journey with our Rogue Heroes.”

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, adds, “The first series dazzled millions of viewers nationwide with its swagger, exhilarating action sequences, and wit, earning a legion of devoted fans in the process. The second season promises to be even grander, proving that Steven Knight and the team were just getting started. We eagerly anticipate the return of the Rogue Heroes to the BBC.”
