UKTV has announced that David Mitchell will be returning in a new series of “David Mitchell’s Outsiders,” where he will continue his mission to determine if comedians have what it takes to survive in a post-apocalyptic society. Produced by Wall to Wall for Dave and UKTV Play, the new series, consisting of six episodes each lasting 60 minutes, is set to air later this year.
In the upcoming season, David Mitchell will challenge a fresh lineup of comedians to demonstrate their ability to survive, thrive, or fail spectacularly as they fend for themselves in the wilderness for a week. Their task will be to prove that they possess the skills necessary to build a new society from scratch in the wild.
Expressing his enthusiasm, David Mitchell stated, “How brilliant that David Mitchell’s Outsiders is coming back for a third series and that I get the chance to put more comedians through their survival paces. I can’t wait to see them flail around in the outdoors in a way that is both hilarious to watch and carries within it the darker truth that, should society collapse, most of us are in for long, agonising deaths. Plus, there’ll be lovely cut-away shots of wildlife which you don’t get in any other panel show.”
The first two series of “David Mitchell’s Outsiders” on Dave and UKTV Play garnered an audience of over 4.2 million viewers. In the new season, David will once again oversee three pairs of comedians as they compete to prove their aptitude for living in a forest, facing a range of wild challenges.
Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning at UKTV, and Mark Iddon, senior commissioning editor, have commissioned “David Mitchell’s Outsiders” for UKTV, while Cherie Cunningham, Dave channel director, has ordered it for Dave. The show is co-produced by Wall to Wall in association with That Mitchell and Webb Company, with Leanne Klein and Victoria Payne serving as executive producers.
Mark Iddon expressed his excitement, saying, “We can’t wait to get back to the great outdoors with David and a new selection of comedians. It’s going to be even better this time with new challenges and new twists to unleash on our comedians.”
Cherie Cunningham added, “Our audience loves David’s comic voice on the channel, and it’s a pleasure to welcome ‘David Mitchell’s Outsiders’ back for more of his unique outdoor challenges.”
Leanne Klein shared her enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to be getting back to the great outdoors with a new band of intrepid comedians, to see how they fare with ever more creative challenges.”
“David Mitchell’s Outsiders” is set to premiere on Dave and UKTV Play later this year, joining an impressive lineup of returning UKTV Originals on the channel, including “Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled,” “Meet the Richardsons,” and “Big Zuu’s Big Eats.”
