Calderdale residents are encouraged to get together and make the Coronation Weekend a community celebration to remember.
The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will be marked over the bank holiday weekend of Saturday 6 to Monday 8 May 2023.
From Coronation Big Lunches and street parties to taking part in the Big Help Out, there are many ways people can get involved in the celebrations.
Cllr Angie Gallagher, the Mayor of Calderdale, said; “The Coronation of our new Monarch, His Majesty King Charles III, and Her Majesty The Queen Consort, is a momentous occasion for the whole country and Commonwealth, and we know that lots of local people will want to take part in the celebrations.
“We’re encouraging our communities to do what Calderdale does best – get together, show community spirit and share kindness.
“This could be as simple as having a cuppa with a neighbour or decorating your house with bunting, or you could go all out and hold a street party.”
The Coronation Big Lunch (6-8 May) brings neighbours and communities together to share friendship, food and fun. For tips on how to get started, visit www.edenprojectcommunities.com/the-big-lunch
A Big Lunch can be as big or small as you like. Calderdale Council has put together a simple form to guide people through the street party application process, which is based on Government guidance. Head to www.visitcalderdale.com/event-hosting/street-parties to find out more and to apply to hold a street party in your neighbourhood.
Applications can take a few weeks to process because you will need a formal notice to close a road.
The Big Help Out on Monday 8 May gives everyone the opportunity to help a local community group or support a charity – from volunteering to checking in on someone who’d like a bit of company.
